Sales Page Copy – 5 Things to Do Before You Write It

5/5 - (1 vote)

How to write a sales text so that your email inbox swells with orders? How to stand out from the competition? Before you sit down to write, you need to prepare yourself. I will tell you how to do it in this article.

But first… I’ll take you to the travel agency.

– Good day. I would like to go on holiday with my husband and 5-year-old son. So that the child can finally splash around in warm water, because, you know, holidays on the Baltic Sea have never allowed that…

The ladies exchange smiles full of understanding. Who hasn’t experienced a rainy vacation at the Polish seaside?

– Let it be a country in Europe. A hotel with a paddling pool for children. I don’t want to live in an amusement park, so hotels with a water park are out of the question. A kilometer to the beach. And it should be easy to get there from the airport. A small hotel would be nice, but not in the middle of nowhere, so you could walk through the picturesque streets and feel the atmosphere of the place.

During the client’s story, the lady from the travel agency keeps clicking something on the computer. She asks about the budget and the date. After a few moments, she turns the monitor and shows the selected hotels.

If she chose the parameters correctly, there is a good chance that the customer will leave the travel agency with a smile on her face and go to the store to choose a holiday outfit, and the travel saleswoman will be happy with the advance payment.

Unfortunately… When you write sales copy for your website, you have a harder time.

The customer will not come on his own to talk about his needs and problems.

It’s also harder to get the product through the filters of all the customer requirements. The product is ready and you don’t have a hundred options to choose from.

You can’t ask a customer at the time they’re reviewing the offer which option suits them best. You can’t even see them.

He is alone with your text.

But you can do something to make this text appeal to him as the best offer for the trip he has been dreaming of.

Customer Research

To create a good copy for a sales page, you need to know what the potential traditional media  needs. Their problems and needs, and most importantly, their words will lead you to the point that they want and will pay for.

How to get this valuable information?

Listen.

Listen to what your customers say.

What questions do they come to you with regarding your product?

Look for them in emails asking about your product or service. In social media messages . In comments under your posts.

Collect and analyze everything that might be useful to you

If someone writes to you in a how to choose an email marketing service provider  message, e.g. on Instagram, you have a chance to talk and ask what they need and what they would be interested in.

Write down these answers, because they will be crucial to the text of your offer.

Thanks to them, you learn the customer’s language and how to write to reach them.

If he says that something “annoys” him, then write in the offer:

“You’re pissed off about…[your customer’s situation], I have [your solution] for you.”

This will work better than: “Does it annoy you to…”

What else can you do?

In-depth interview

It sounds a bit scary, but trust me, it’s a really nice sg number  where you ask questions and let people talk.
